Practically perfect Available in a smart Candy White or Corrida Red paint finish at no extra cost, the ŠKODA Fabia can otherwise be selected in optional Race Blue or Quartz Grey metallic colours. Alternatively, Magic Black or Candy White (the latter with black contrasts) are pearl finishes that are available as options. Whichever colour you choose, the automobile’s five-door body ensures easy access for backseat travellers, particularly since the rear doors open nice and wide. And inside, the Fabia easily accommodates four full-size adults, or a young family of five.
Plenty of storage Whether you’re sitting in the front or back, you’ll be pleased to know that the Fabia features loads of storage cubbies. Included are large front door bins that are ideal for stashing 1.5-litre bottles.
Big boot A class-competitive 330-litre boot should more than suffice when heading out for a weekly shop, for example. And with rear seats flipped, luggage capacity rises to a very useable 1,150 litres. Since the rear bench is 60/40 split-folding, you’re provided with a number of different ways to carry cargo and passengers.
Easy loading Thanks to a low load sill (even lower than was featured on previous generations) and wide-opening aperture, placing and retrieving bulky items into/from the boot is easier than ever.
Five-star safety Awarded by ANCAP, a maximum five-star safety rating more than justifies this Fabia’s family-friendly tag. Accordingly, the vehicle is fitted with myriad passive protective features and driver aids. For example, numerous airbags (curtain, front driver and passenger) help prevent injuries to heads, chests and pelvic areas, while three-point seatbelts are fitted front and back. Ideal for effectively securing very young travellers, ISOFIX child seat anchors are located on the Fabia’s outer rear seats.
Autonomous Emergency Braking Autonomous Emergency Braking is a standard inclusion, one that warns the driver if there’s a risk of an impending low-speed collision. If the driver is unable to respond in time, maximum braking pressure is applied automatically.
Anti-skid technology Thanks to the inclusion of Anti-lock Braking System (and Electronic Stability Control, for that matter) it’s a lot easier to maintain traction on all types of surfaces. ABS is particularly essential when you need to stop the vehicle in a hurry on a slippery road. It works by reducing pressure to the brakes, until sufficient acceleration occurs, and then applies braking again, until deceleration starts to prevail, and all of this happens very quickly.
Hill-hold Control The last thing you want to happen when starting the car up is for it to roll forwards or backwards down a hill. This is where Hill-hold Control comes in, using sensors that measure the angle of tilt and send a signal to the Fabia’s braking system, ensuring that wheels are kept steady for a few seconds after you take your foot off the brake.
Performance The ŠKODA Fabia is fitted with a 1.0-litre petrol engine, which returns a combined 4.5 litres per 100 km figure, while producing CO2 emissions from just 104g/km. Although a versatile motor car, this hatch is especially suited to urban situations. This is partly because of its relatively small size but also because its engine delivers a punchy 0-100 km/h in approximately 10.8 seconds. Also available is a 1.0-litre petrol unit that delivers extra potency: 175Nm of torque, which allows 0-100 km/h in roughly 10.1 seconds.
Manual or automatic The Fabia is supplied with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard – or optional seven-speed automatic transmission. The latter not only facilitates a seamless transition through the gears, it helps to deliver enhanced acceleration.
Security assured Without the owner’s key, neither the doors nor the tailgate can be opened. Even if someone smashes a window and gains access that way, the engine remains immobilised. You can adjust the car’s remote locking settings if you wish. For example, you can allow the boot lid to open with just the touch of a button.
Five-year peace of mind Whichever Fabia variant you choose, it is provided with a five-year warranty, no matter how many kilometres you clock-up during that time. And did we mention that roadside assistance is free for the first year? Hopefully, it’s considerations like this that will help take the strain out of your motoring experience, especially since ŠKODA always has your back.
