Looking good Following a 2019 facelift, the Superb returned with renewed vigour – and a freshly designed grille, new bumpers and the addition of LED headlights, among other things. These changes only served to enhance the sedan’s already attractive coupé-like appearance, courtesy of a conspicuous front-end and swept-back roofline. And with colours such as Candy White, Lava Blue and Magic Black (and Velvet Red, available with Sportline trims only) to choose from, securing a model that best matches your preferences shouldn’t be a problem. Meanwhile, the car’s four-door body makes it a very practical choice, particularly as it offers unfettered access for rear-seated travellers.
Attractive alloys Entry-level Superb trims are fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, which look terrific while delivering enhanced efficiency due to their lightweight yet robust design. Sportline trims go one better, riding on even more impressive 19-inch alloys.
Cargo plus Since all models are fitted with roof rails, you’ll always have the option to carry items overhead that can’t easily be accommodated within the luggage compartment. With a roof rack fitted, it’s possible to transport all kinds of outsized objects, including surfboards, bikes and ladders.
Back in black Top-tier Sportline variants distinguish themselves from standard models in a number of ways – most noticeably via dramatic black-coloured design flourishes. These can be spotted on door mirror shells, a striking front grille and fog lamps, for instance. Even normally silver roof rails are treated to a glossy black finish.
Comfortably spacious The latest Škoda Superb is bigger than ever, which is saying something since it was pretty roomy in the first place. And it doesn’t matter which compartment you travel in because you’ll find yourself comfortably accommodated regardless. There’s more than enough room for three adults in the back – and getting in and out is made all the more easy thanks to wide-opening rear doors. That said, front-row occupants are treated to adjustable positions, and the driver to a rake-and-reach-adjustable steering wheel, all of which make it even easier to get nice and comfy.
Convenient compartments A voluminous glovebox, large door pockets, a centre-console-located storage compartment, rear door bins and a pair of cup-holders in both rows are just some of the useful places to put things. And if you can’t see the rear compartment’s cup-holder, that’s because it’s folded neatly into the centre armrest.
Taking the load In and of itself, a minimum-capacity 625-litre boot space is pretty impressive. However, with rear seats dropped, 1,760 litres of cargo volume becomes available. Furthermore, a wide-opening tailgate makes loading and unloading awkwardly sized items as easy as possible.
Need even more room? Although standard Superb models feature a flexible, capacious interior, there’s even more room to be found in Wagon iterations. For example the Superb Wagon’s boot space stands at 660 litres, rising to 1,950 litres with rear seats flipped, representing a not-inconsiderable increase.
Performance The Superb is powered by a 2.0-litre 162kW petrol engine, which produces 350Nm of torque between 1,500rpm and 4,400rpm. This allows the vehicle to go from 0-100 km/h in approximately seven seconds and achieve a top speed of 245km/h, while returning a combined 6.6 litres per 100 km. A 260kW version of the same engine is fitted inside Sportline trims, producing 350Nm of torque between 1,700rpm and 5,600rpm. This enables the vehicle to proceed from 0-100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds.
Four-wheel power The Superb can be selected with four-wheel-drive, which is a definite advantage if you spend a lot of time off-roading. It’s especially ideal for rural locations and during snowy or icy weather conditions. Four-wheel-drive allows both sets of wheels to be engaged, which sees improved traction, therefore offering you greater overall control of the vehicle.
Sound and vision Thanks to the inclusion of a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, you’ll have no problem getting from A to B. The presence of Columbus satellite navigation will certainly help in that regard. And while you’re on your way, an eight-speaker sound system is there to entertain you.
Plenty of protection Five-star ANCAP certification is a sure sign that the Škoda Superb is a very safe vehicle indeed. Certainly, this vehicle is packed with numerous passive protective features, including multiple airbags, ISOFIX child-seat anchor points – and driver aids such as Autonomous Emergency Braking.
